Patricia Ann "Pat" Bowman JENKINS Obituary

Patricia Ann Bowman Jenkins, aged 77, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2024 due to natural causes.  Raised in Cleveland, Ohio she was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Lloyd Bowman Sr. and Katherine Lee Bowman.

Patricia is survived by her loving son, Joseph Randall (Adrienne) Jenkins of Twinsburg, Ohio.  She is also survived by her two grandsons, Julian Oliver Jenkins and Landon Miles Jenkins, both of Twinsburg, Ohio as well as her brother, Edwin Lloyd (Michele Range) Bowman Jr. of Croton on Hudson, New York.  Additionally, she leaves behind a large extended family and network of close friends who loved her dearly.

Patricia graduated from Collinwood High School in Cleveland, Ohio in 1965.  She went on to study English at Carnegie Mellon University (“CMU”) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1969. She later earned her Masters in English at CMU, completing her degree in 1970.

A lifelong educator, Patricia devoted her 30-year professional career to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (“CMSD”).  For most of her time at CMSD, Patricia was an administrator, serving as the Director of Compensatory Education for many years, however Patricia was a teacher at heart.  She began her career teaching at Lincoln West High School on Cleveland’s West Side.  Prior to her retirement in 2000 she returned to the classroom, teaching English at Glenville High School.  After her departure from CMSD, Patricia served as a regular substitute teacher at Hawken Lower School and Hawken Upper School where her son was a scholar.

Patricia was a devout Christian and woman of faith.  In recent years she regularly attended Forest Hills Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio where she was a participant and leader in numerous Adult Spiritual Growth classes and a member of both the Nominating committee and Prayer Team.  Previously, Patricia was affiliated with East Mount Zion Baptist Church and Mount Zion Congregational Church, respectively.

Patricia was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor.  Patricia’s son, Joseph, was the joy of her life and they spoke daily about topics including her grandsons, politics, Cleveland sports and her various adventures around Cleveland Heights. The quintessential “little sister”, Patricia loved her brother Edwin dearly and they spoke every afternoon for years until her passing.  Patricia was also a loving aunt to her four nephews, Edwin, Philip, Martin and Kevin and she looked forward to her long, wide-ranging conversations with each of them.

After enduring two extensive surgeries to address lung and pancreatic cancers in 2017, Patricia often vowed to do “as much as I can, for as long as I can”.  Since 2017 she witnessed her son’s marriage and the birth of her two grandsons, and she made countless memories with her close cohort of friends and family.

A woman of wisdom and grace, Patricia will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  A funeral service will be held Friday January 3, 2025 at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, 3031 Monticello Boulevard, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118 beginning at 11:00am.  Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, 12316 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106 following the service.  Patricia A. Bowman Jenkins’ legacy of love will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
