Obituary

A recent saying tells us that we inappropriately think of time as something we spend when we should instead think of it as an investment. Lisa Marie Cannon (née, Young), age 55, did both with great passion and wisdom until her battle with cancer ended on Thursday, February 8, 2024. She spent her days working diligently and successfully for Progressive Insurance for the last 29 years, both in the CAIP division and as a Reporting Analyst III. She invested her time in the family and friends she greatly loved and cherished. She is survived by her husband, Ben Cannon III, her parents Mardessia Humphrey and Eugene Young, her stepfather Wilson Humphrey and her grandmother Lillian Trevathan. She is also survived by her siblings Sheri Young, Eugene Young, Jr. and Armon Young, Sr. She will be missed by the nieces and nephews in whom she invested time, love, and an inordinate amount of care including Michael Young, Heather Young (née, Koniz), Brittani Cannon, Brianna Cannon, Denario Gray, Kadeem Cesar, Janeen Young, Bennette Harris, Cha’Rai Cannon, D’Asiya Young, Chardae Cannon, Courtnie Cannon, Javon Young, Jarell Young, Jaya Barksdale, Kaumari Hall, Armon Young Jr., and grand nieces and nephews Kenneth Daniel, Bryson Hall, Ayden Amber-Marie Young, Keidan Marshall, Carter Young, Bryce Young, and Hunter Roberts. She is preceded in death by her stepson, Ben Cannon IV, and nephew, Savon Young. A second-generation Ohio University alum, she graduated with a degree in Sports Medicine. She was also a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc sorority and valued the strength she gained from her association with the esteemed organization and her treasured sorority sisters. Locally, she invested in organizations that focused on the academic and socioemotional care and development of children including serving as a team mom for the Cleveland Heights little league football team, a team mom for the Cleveland Heights basketball travel league as well as the Cleveland Heights High School basketball team, and a wrestling mom for St. Ignatius High School. Time is limited, but her spirit and energy were limitless. Her family is consoled by her embracing smile, warm laugh, compassionate words and, above all, that she is at peace.

It is certain, in any case, that ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have. - James Baldwin
