OBITUARY

Geralynne Regina Ingram was born on June 17, 1950, in Harlem, New York to Jerome and Gladys Ingram, both of whom precede her in their passing.

Geralynne, affectionately called Gerry, lived a fruitful and accomplished life. A gifted student, she graduated from Malverne High School at fifteen and earned her degree from Hofstra University at the age of eighteen.

While at Hofstra, Gerry met David Hughes from Brooklyn, New York. They married on July 21, 1969, in Cairo, Egypt, and shared a passion for traveling that took them to destinations including Germany, the Netherlands, Libya, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and many more.

Together, they had seven children whom she raised with a steadfast focus on faith and education, and she took immense pride in their professional paths and accomplishments. Her children’s diverse successes are a testament to those values. Four of the children were born in New York City: Latif Dawoud Hughes, a business owner; Ahmed Malik Hughes, a financial consultant; Titanya Hughes, a businesswoman; and Dr. Aisha Hughes Frazier, a pediatric cardiac intensivist. Following the family's relocation to Greater Cleveland, Ohio, two more children were born: Pastor David Hughes II, and Michael Anthony Hughes.

In Greater Cleveland, Ohio, Geralynne thrived as a dedicated teacher, educating students from elementary school through high school.  Following her divorce, she returned to Long Island in 1987 to be closer to family, settling in Lakeview. She earned advanced degrees in education and litigation and completed all requirements for her doctorate in education administration except for her dissertation. She served as a teacher and administrator across all grade levels, eventually retiring as the Vice Principal of Hempstead Middle School.

A devout Christian, Geralynne was adamant about raising her children in the church, teaching them the importance of prayer, fasting, and serving God. She is a longtime member of Beth-El Church of God in Christ in West, Hempstead, NY. She served as an Evangelist and was a gifted orator. She founded One in Christ Ministries Inc., where she organized numerous retreats, plays, religious events, and assisted in a church plant. She was also an author of several children’s books.

She was a proud member and former national president of Key Women of America, Inc., as well as a dedicated member and former Parliamentarian of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Above all, she cherished her family, her faith, and her community. Geralynne had a passion for traveling with her loved ones, with her most recent international trips taking her to South Africa and the Philippines. She often expressed a desire to visit Australia next. She also had a well-known love for sweets, especially chocolate chip cookies from Malverne Bakery.

Geralynne was preceded in death by her parents; her former husbands, Michael Reynolds and Keith Brandon (d. 2007); her firstborn infant son who lived only a few days; and her sons Michael Anthony who died at nine years old due to cardiomyopathy (d. 1993), and Ahmed Malik (d. 2017).

Geralynne is lovingly remembered by her surviving children, Latif Dawoud (Angela Denise), Titanya, Aisha (James Louis), and David II (Keisha Raye); and her grandchildren, Shazadai Monique Hughes, Janae Angela Hughes, Latif Dawoud Hughes II, Ariana Angelica Frazier, Aliyah Makayla Frazier, and David Hughes III; as well as her extended family, including the Brandon family, and many dear friends.

May she rest in peace knowing the depths to which she was truly loved. In her memory, let us remember the legacy she lived rooted in faith and love of family, friends and community and strength in her belief in God.
