Doris Jean Cox entered the world on August 20, 1945, in Pitt County, North Carolina, born to the late Rev. Bruce F. Cox and Malissa R. Carmon. As the eldest of six siblings, she was cared for with deep affection by her grandparents, Simon and Zora Carmon.
Affectionately known as Jean by family and friends, she graduated from W.H. Robinson High School before going on to study at NCC of Durham, known today as North Carolina University.
After college Jean was employed by Dr. Andrew Best. She worked with him for over 40 years as his office manager and nurse. She was a dedicated worker always striving to do her best. .Jean accepted Jesus Christ into her life at a young age and was baptized. She was a faithful member of Good Hope (FWB) Baptist Church in Winterville, NC.
Jean loved to shop, travel and spend time with family and friends. She never married or had children, but she had a very big extended family whom she loved and was loved by all.
Jean was the “Caregiver” for many. It included: her grandparents, two of her close cousins, her father, her employer, as well as other family members.
Jean was known to all her loved ones and in her community as someone you could call on anytime anywhere and she was there. She might fuss at you along the way but it was all out of love.
Doris Jean Cox departed her earthly vessel on Wednesday March 25, 2026 at the age of 80 surrounded by her loved ones.
She was proceeded in death by her grandparents, her parents, her brother, and two sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory her brother Bernie Cox (Beverly), sisters, Sybil and Denise Cox, her special niece Sonora Cox, lifelong friend Annie Mae Lewis, and a host of extended family, friends and loved ones.
The Cox family acknowledges with sincere appreciation the comforting messages. floral tributes, cards, calls and all other expressions of condolences during our time of bereavement. We will announce the details of her Memorial Service in North Carolina once they have been finalized.
