Clinton Martin, was born on November 12, 1932 in Appling, Georgia to Francis (Germany) and John Martin. He was baptized at an early age at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta. Clinton was the third of eight children. Clinton died on October 09, 2021, at the age of 88.
After the death of his mother, Clinton moved to Augusta, Georgia to live with his cousin, Cora “Big Momma”- Morman. He attended Steed Elementary School and Lucy Laney High School in Augusta. After high school, Clinton travelled around the United States following the PGA golf circuit waiting tables. He eventually settled in New York City, where he became an apprentice for his brother-in-law laying carpet. Clinton became a Teamster Union member when trade unions opened membership to African Americans. He eventually became a master carpet layer and became lovingly known as “Clint the Carpet Man” in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1982, Clinton moved to Orlando, Florida and was a subcontractor working at Walt Disney World. He installed much of the original carpet included in the attraction scenes at Epcot Center. After returning to Cleveland, Clinton installed the original carpet in Gund Arena. He was also the owner of Clint’s Carpet Service.
Clinton Martin was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Geraldine Combs, two younger sisters, Doris Martin and Ruth Martin, one older brother, Floyd Walker (Idella), three younger brothers, Richard Martin, James Martin and Bobby Martin, one daughter, Christine Martin and one granddaughter, Tiffany Hennigan.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Martin, youngest sister, Hattie Reese, two daughters Patricia Hennigan and Clintina Bryant (Nathan), one son Clinton Martin Jr, (Ethel), two step-daughters, Alicia Ailer, and Allison Ailer-Hefflin (Tod), ten grandchildren including Troy Hennigan, Kevin Hennigan (Yolanda), Chereese Martin, Keri Martin (Terrence), Kacey Johnson, Kimberly Smith (Leroy), Cailee Martin, Christopher Hefflin, Alexander Hefflin and Skylar Martin, 16 great grandchildren, eight great, great grandchildren, his ex-wife Dorothy Martin, and a host of other family and friends.
