Obituary

Carol Sue Miller, nee Burks, of Shaker Heights, passed away on September 1, 2025. She was born to the late James and Alice Burks on December 13, 1937 in East Liverpool, Ohio, growing up there as one of seven siblings.

Carol made her way to Cleveland, Ohio at age 17 to attend Fenn College, studying to be an elementary school educator. After graduating, she met the love of her life, Robert “Bobby” Miller, and they were married on August 25, 1962. They spent the next 62 years journeying through this life as husband and wife until his death in 2017. Carol and Bobby spent the early years of their marriage as caring aunt and uncle to many nieces and nephews, and they welcomed their beloved daughter, Angela, in 1971.

Carol made her career teaching in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, as a dedicated educator, until her retirement in 1995. She was a devoted member of Plymouth Church, UCC in Shaker Heights, which the Millers made their faith home in 1976. Carol was a pillar of the congregation and a dear friend to many, including her special friends Joyce Butze and Lydia Nelson.

Later in life, Carol cherished being a grandmother to her granddaughter, Zoe Bennett, and was immensely proud of all her accomplishments. Carol maintained her steadfast faithfulness, good humor, and humble grace to the end of her life.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Angela M. Bennett, MD (Joseph Gordon), granddaughter Zoe E. Bennett, siblings, James Burks and Billie Rose, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Burks, husband, Robert Miller, and siblings Carletta Arrington, Betty Wright, Noreen Gilham, and Jeanette Hicks.

A celebration of life will be held at Plymouth Church, UCC on Sunday, September 14 at 3:00pm, officiated by Pastor Dillon Shipman. (2860 Coventry Road, Shaker Heights, Ohio 44120)
